The OmniAir Consortium is the leading advocate for the national deployment of open, effective, and interoperable 5.9 GHz DSRC technologies to dramatically improve the safety, mobility and efficiency of highway transportation. OmniAir Members are organizations and people from the public and private sector intricately involved in ITS & telematics and who appreciate the great potential of DSRC. They reflect the highest degree of business and technical expertise evident in this community. Through the member-defined OmniAir Certification program, members are working for open standards, third-party certification, and competitiveness in DSRC and the telematics industry.
5.9 GHz DSRC…
5.9GHz Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) is a short-to-medium-range communications service that supports Public Safety, Mobility and Private services in vehicle-to-roadside and vehicle-to-vehicle communication environments. It complements other ITS protocols by providing unique performance characteristics in circumstances where high data security and data rates, minimized latency in the communication link, and isolating relatively small communication zones are important.
And Certification
DSRC is based on open standards any organization can build to, and it is intended to be deployed nationally. Therefore, it must interoperate across regions, individual vehicles, and DSRC-enabled devices, regardless of location or make.
This can only be accomplished via an independent third-party certification of standards compliance and interoperability.
This is what OmniAir provides – a critical, single interpretation of what ‘compliance’ means via a distinct test suite developed solely for DSRC. OmniAir certification will increase assurance among those that specify ‘OmniAir-Certified’ DSRC in their ITS deployments.
