OmniAir Collaborating with IEEE-SA and IEEE-ISTO on Certification Structure

The OmniAir Consortium is happy to announce a collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE-SA) and the IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (ISTO). The purpose of the engagement is the development of OmniAir's 5.9GHz DSRC device standards-compliance certification program structure, a key deliverable in OmniAir's USDOT Cooperative Agreement.

About IEEE:

The Mission of IEEE is to facilitate the life cycle of industry standards development through a staff committed to neutrality, quality, and member satisfaction.

About IEEE-ISTO:

The IEEE-ISTO offers industry groups (e.g., consortia, special interest groups, alliances, forums, working groups) an innovative and flexible operational forum and support for development and post-development standards and technology development activities.

OmniAir Relocating

As of the beginning of 2008, the OmniAir Consortium is operating from its new location in Falls Church City, Virginia, the heart of the association and contractor community in Northern Virginia. Since it's founding, OmniAir had been located with the International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association (IBTTA) at it's offices in northwest Washington, DC. This is because OmniAir was spun-off from IBTTA, which generously supported the organization in it's early days until it was self-sufficient. If you find yourself heading from Dulles Airport into DC, for instance, you are in the neighborhood, so please stop by and say hello.

OmniAir To Work Cooperatively with Connected Vehicle Trade Association

The OmniAir Consortium, Washington, DC, has agreed to work with the Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA), based in Plymouth, MI to jointly develop and provide 5.9GHz DSRC certification services at the Center for Automotive Research's (CAR) “Connected Vehicle Proving Center” (CVPC). The CVPC was made possible by a grant from the state of Michigan. Together, the associations expect to play a pivotal role in advancing the USDOT's Vehicle Infrastructure Integration Program through this direct service to the global automotive community. The CVPC will be available to public and private entities as a reference environment for product evaluation and qualification within this realm. Over time, the center will evolve into a certification / validation laboratory.

OmniAir VII Tolling Concept of Operations WebEx Attracts 75 Participants

The June 29th USDOT-OmniAir VII Tolling ConOps WebEx and teleconference marked the third event in a year-long project to identify the elements of future VII-based tolling and payment services. The event drew over 70 subject matter experts. Operators, integrators, concessionaires and others on the 'infrastructure' side of VII joined representatives from the auto and financial sector to discuss the business and operational requirements of VII, or 5.9GHz DSRC-based, vehicle-to-roadside payment systems. A ConOps looks beyond the lane-level hardware standards and even the application interface specifications needed for an interoperable service. It focuses on the 'third' layer of harmonization - the institutional. For more information, please contact OmniAir at info@omniair.org

OmniAir VII Tolling Concept of Operations - June 29th WebEx

In conjunction with USDOT, OmniAir is holding a teleconference and WebEx to discuss the developing VII Tolling Concept of Operations. This meeting follows the March 1st WebEx where OmniAir introduced the project, and the April 23rd Workshop in Austin, TX where it was refined further. Since the Workshop the ConOps team has been developing operational concepts illustrating existing toll schemes and proposed VII EPS environments. Please visit www.omniair.org/conops to download both the invitation and the materials to be covered. This promises to be an interesting discussion.

OmniAir VII Tolling ConOps Workshop Draws Double Expected Numbers

OmniAir's VII Tolling Concept of Operations Workshop, April 23rd in Austin Texas, drew over 60 people, twice the number than originally expected. While most of the participants came from the toll industry, which was the plan, there were also representatives from the other key participants in VII Electronic Payment Services (EPS): car companies and banks.

OmniAir VII Concept of Operations Workshop Registration Closed

OmniAir is pleased to report that the response from the VII and transportation community to the invitation to attend the VII Toll and Payments Concept of Operations Workshop on April 23rd has been excellent. With over 45 attendees reflecting a broad representation of the transportation community at the table, OmniAir is closing registration. In addition to the fact that the meeting space is limited, the dynamics of a larger group could negatively impact the process, i.e. the bigger the crowd, the less inclined people are to provide quality input. If you wanted to attend this event, we regret it, but it is not the last event. Furthermore, workshop results will be made available via the 'VII ConOps' link on this website.
