OmniAir Committees are active forums that work explicitly to advance the goals of the Consortium.
Certification Committee
The OmniAir Certification Committee advances the goal of hardware interoperability. It addresses DSRC standards compliance certification, specifically for the Onboard Unit (OBU) and Roadside Unit (RSU) – devices used in vehicle-to-roadside and vehicle-to-vehicle communications. The Committee is currently developing the OmniAir Certification ProgramSM which will give DSRC developers, integrators and end-users assurance that the products they design, procure and deploy are compliant to community-defined standards and meet select performance criterion. The goal is reduced risk, interoperability, and market choice. OmniAir certification is critical – it will result in greater confidence in DSRC. It is a must for the timely adoption of the hardware and the deployment of the interoperable safety, mobility and commercial applications intended for it.

Electronic Payment Services Committee
The OmniAir Electronic Payment Services (EPS) Committee advances the goal of application interoperability. The committee is an acknowledgement that: 1) true interoperability means more than standards-based hardware; and 2) new approaches to mobile EPS are emerging and that these are promoted by new actors with sometimes different agendas. The object of the committee is to develop common interface specifications, a national, user-driven EPS network architecture, an accessible market for service providers, open systems for operators and a seamless experience for the driver.

Deployment Committee
The goal of the Deployment Committee is to establish a deployment test-bed in Denver, Colorado, to demonstrate sustainable 5.9GHz DSRC-based, connected V2V and V2I mobility and applications. The Committee will develop and fine-tune a model for deployment that can be replicated elsewhere, resulting in a national implementation of connected vehicle systems that significantly improve safety, mobility, the environment, and the economic contribution of our transportation networks.

The role of the Committee is to meet the goals and objectives of OmniAir. As the democratizing element of OmniAir, all members may participate and influence a committee and many members join OmniAir just to participate in a particular activity or project. The success of OmniAir’s committees comes down to: 1) relevant projects; 2) committed, knowledgeable and available chairs; and 3) devoted experts.
